What issues concern you?

Are you worried about overbuilding, the preservation of open space, adequate public facilities? Maybe you should think about joining the HCCA and leveraging the power of many voices from across Howard County.

Want to stay informed?

Being aware of legislative actions and decisions early enough to influence the outcome is the key to effective action.  HCCA can help you do just that with links, online tools and information you need to stay informed.

Revise & Expand APFO

In order to preserve the quality of life in this county, we need to ensure that the Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance (APFO) is aligned with our plans for growth.  We’re facing some issues in Howard County.  Let’s get APFO revised and expanded.

Concerned About Columbia's Future as a Planned Community?

A lot of the best things about Columbia came about because it is a planned community.  But with over development and lack of a gatekeeper to ensure adherence to development guidelines, Columbia’s future is at risk.

Aging Successfully in Howard County

Are you putting together a plan for aging in Howard County? The HCCA is actively involved in helping ensure that Howard County residents have the tools they need to age successfully.

 HCCA TPV Coalition Logo

In December of 2014, HCCA and The People’s Voice (TPV) formed a civic coalition to serve as a joint hub of information on County issues that affect our quality of life. Click here to see TPV’s monthly civic updates, and legislative positions. The HCCA is not a political organization and is in no way associated with the Ethics Ballot.

Announcements

The next Board Meeting is Wednesday, Apr 3, 2024 at 7:00PM at BA Auto Care, 9577 Berger Road, Columbia. Paid HCCA Members can request to attend no later than March 29, 2024.

On June 13, 2023 HCCA announced the 2023 Advocates of the Year: Joel Broida and Joan Pontius. HCCA donated $100 in Joan Pontius’ name to Days End Horse Rescue. Joel Broida requested that HCCA retain the money.

In October 2021, the HCCA donated $250 each for the Howard County Food Bank and the Patuxent Riverkeepers.

Conducted a Library Location Survey, starting on Feb 28, 2024 and concluded on Mar 13, 2024 consisting of 120 participants. The results were that 73% stated the Library should exist at its present location or at the Mall.

We are pleased that on December 11, 2023 HCCA donated $250 to the Howard County Food Bank to go along with the previous $1000. It is because of paid membership and contributions that we are able to give to those in need.

The response to the HCCA’s documentary, “Columbia at 50 – A Bridge to the Future”, has been outstanding! People are excited, and they want to make a difference. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to help build a bridge to Columbia’s next 50 years, so we have uploaded the film to YouTube and are making it available for you to screen. Help us share the story to try and ensure the future of not only Columbia but ALL of Howard County is successful for the next 50 years.  Sponsor a screening.  Share it with your networks. Help us get the word out.
